ASSAULTING THE POLICE.
Henry Mortimer, Robert Williams, and Patrick Goonan, the three men who were alleged to have assaulted Constable Day in Casselden-street on the evening of February 14, were brought before the City Court yesterday. Mortimer was sentenced to three months and Williams to one month's imprisonment. Goonan declared that he lived in the house into which the constable and his opponents had rushed during the assault. The furniture was being smashed up, and he merely called out, "Come out of that." The Bench took the view that there was some doubt about Goonan, and he was discharged.
